Artigo 31
I - prover e realizar estudos e pesquisas no campo da Física e suas aplicações;
II - atuar como instituto nacional de Física do Ministério e polo de investigação científica e de formação, treinamento e aperfeiçoamento de pessoal científico;
III - criar e manter programas de pós-graduação em Física e cursos especiais;
IV - estabelecer intercâmbio científico;
V - difundir conhecimento científico, no âmbito de sua competência;
VI - desenvolver e gerar produtos e tecnologias e transferir e comercializar esses produtos e tecnologias;
VII - manter e divulgar acervo de documentação e biblioteca especializados; e
VIII - transferir para a sociedade serviços e produtos singulares, resultantes de suas atividades de pesquisa e desenvolvimento, mediante o cumprimento de dispositivos legais aplicáveis.
